Getting Ready for Your Puppy
Your puppy comes home soon, and we are so excited for you. Every Wildflower puppy goes home at 8 weeks old, vet checked, vaccinated, dewormed, and covered by our written health guarantee. Pickup is in Water Valley, Mississippi, or on one of our scheduled Georgia pickup days in Conyers, right on the Loganville line, for a flat $100 fee. A little prep before pickup day makes those first days at home calm and easy, so here is everything you need to know.
The food to buy
Our puppies eat Purina Pro Plan Puppy Lamb & Rice, and we recommend keeping your puppy on it when they first come home. A sudden food change can upset a puppy's stomach, so if you plan to switch foods later, do it slowly over about a week, mixing a little more of the new food in each day.

Supplies to have ready
Here is a short list of what to have on hand before pickup day:
- Purina Pro Plan Puppy Lamb & Rice
- A harness for walks. Dachshunds should always be walked on a harness, not a collar. Collars are for ID tags only.
- A crate, for sleeping and safe downtime
- Puppy pads
- Chew toys made for puppies
- Food and water bowls
- An ID tag for their collar

Already in your puppy pack
Good news: some of this is already handled. Every puppy goes home with a puppy pack that includes:
- Health records and health certificate
- A sample bag of their food
- Puppy pads
- A toy
- A blanket
- A collar
So there is no need to buy those before pickup unless you just want extras.
First days home
The first few days are all about helping your puppy feel safe. A few gentle basics go a long way:
- Keep a simple routine. Regular times for meals, play, and sleep help your puppy settle in fast.
- Let them sleep. Puppies need lots of rest, so quiet nap time matters as much as play time.
- Take potty breaks often. Head outside after waking up, after meals, and after play, and praise them when they go.
- Protect those little backs. Limit stairs and jumping on and off furniture while your puppy is growing.
- See your vet in the first week. We suggest booking a visit with your own vet within the first week or so, just to get your puppy established and on their books.
